Stary Zoliborz is maybe one of Warsaws best places for a cosy and peaceful walk.

There are also remains of an old fortress with a viewpoint. The citadel was built during the 18th century by the Russian occupying power, and served as prison and place of executions. It was a symbol of warning to all rebellious Poles, who saw a problem in the Russian occupation.

Saska Kepa officially belongs to the district of Praga, and is known as Warsaws place for diplomats. Saska Kepa is not rich on sights, but belongs to one of the most beautiful districts of Warsaw.

There are several mansions which were built in the Interwar period. Seska Kepa has the character of being an own city inside the Polish capital. Many shops, coffee houses, restaurants, and churches are on the spot, and enriches the appearance.

Several green parks and the Vistula river divide Saska Kepa from all the other districts, and make this place to an island. Saska Kepa is the district with most of Warsaws embassies. The embassy of Portugal is probably the most beautiful one, and can be found in ul. Francuska 37.

Praga is the alternative district of Warsaw. Several years ago this place had a very bad reputation being the home for small-time criminals, but later artists and hedonists conquered the district, and made it to a very unique place of Warsaw.

Praga was also the district where most of the buildings were not completely destroyed during the second world war.

If you want to see the typical character of the old Praga, you should go and visit the Zabowska and the Brzeska street. Redecorated storefronts with pubs and restaurants in bakestone characterize this passage.

The new town of Warsaw is known as “Nowe Miasto”, and characterized by low houses, a cobblestone pavement, restaurants, city palaces, and churches. The new town was always the place of the craftsmen. This is the reason why the strorefronts are not that prestigious as in the old town. The old town of Warsaw was the home of the rich merchants.

The market square of the new town is not that new. This place already exists since more than 600 years. Nowe Miastos market square is popular as a very calm and melancholic place, and known as “Rynek Nowego Miasta”.

Warsaws new town is also the location of Marie Curies birth house. She was a famous physicist, and born in the Polish capital.

The character of Mariensztat is calm and peaceful. Mariensztats main square looks like the piazza of an Italian town. The houses of this place are low, have balconies, and were built in the style of the 18th century.

“Stare Miasto” is known as Warsaws old town and the heart and soul of Polands capital. A vibrant life characterize the place. Many tourists and merchants are part of the streetscape.

After the second world war, the old town was completely destroyed. It was a huge effort to rebuilt the whole place in such impressing beauty. It’s really unbelievable that all houses are just copies from old pictures which were taken before the war. They look very original.

For such a big city as Warsaw, its old town is rather small. The location is on a hillside over the Vistula river.

In 1980 the old town of Warsaw was accepted to be part in the list of UNESCO’s World Cultural Heritage.
