Shopping in Warsaw

Warsaws most important shopping attractions are applied arts, fashion, and jewellery. There is a huge range of those things, and the prices are usually 30 percent cheaper as in Western European cities. These are the two main reasons that Warsaw is becoming more and more popular as a tourist destination for shopping.

The most important shopping streets of Warsaw are “Nowy Swiat” and “Chmielna”. The old town is full of fancy shops and boutiques. But there is also an increasing number of shopping malls in the centre of the Polish capital.

Empik is the name of one of Warsaws most important book shops. The store also offers a wide range of the most important newspapers, as well as music, movies, and concert tickets.

Many boutiques and restaurants can be found in the ulica Chmielna shopping street. The street is the only pedestrian precinct Warsaws which is not located in the old town.

Noble boutiques in carefully newly constructed houses. This is ulica Mokotowska. Fashion from all important labels, and stylish furniture are mainly offered. There are also some good restaurants with extraordinary cuisine.

Nowy Swiat is the shopping street for jewellery, art, and exclusive clothes. This shopping street was even noble and classy during Soviet time, which was quite remarkable in those times. Nowy Swiat is part of the Royal path to the castle and the old town.

Arkadia is the most popular shopping mall of Warsaw. It was opened in 2004 and delights with a wide range of fashion, a supermarket, and a property market.

One of Warsaws newest shopping malls is Zlote Tarasy. It was the first one which was built in the centre of the city, directly next to the cultural palace and the railwaystation. There is also a cinema included.

Ceramics and glassware can be found in Banasik. The shop sells mainly Polish products. Piekna 28/34. Typical Polish furniture and interior equipment is available in Cepelia, Chmielna 8.

Bazar Polna and Hala Mirowska are the traditional market places of Warsaw. One of the most important wine merchant is Mielzynski in Burakowska 5/7. Wedel is the name for Polish chocolate. Their chocolates shop in Szpitalna 8 is a true attraction and known as a cosy coffee house.

Polish fashion for young people is available in Cropp Town. Their shops are located in all important shopping malls. Hexeline is another Polish fashion label. It’s for woman and sublime class. Other Polish labels are: Monnari (fashion for women), Olimpia (knitwear for women and men), Reserved (casual clothes), and Vistula Wolczanka (men’s fashion).

Warsaws most traditional street market with nostalgic flair is Bazar Rozyckiego in the Praga distict. Another important street market in Warsaw is Gielda staroci na Kole. This is the place for old clocks, radios, furniture and other things. Jarmark Europa is called the biggest bazar of Europe, and can be found in the Polish capital. All kind of things are available there. From illegal CD’s to clothes with faked labels.
